4-22-1934 Wisconsin-Brewed Beer Soap®
The night of April 22nd, 1934 began, as most spring nights in the Wisconsin Northwoods do — in absolute, unhurried silence. The pines stood their ancient watch over the dark water of Little Star Lake. The lodge glowed warmly against the cold. And somewhere inside, John Dillinger and his associates — men whose names would become synonymous with the desperate, lawless final chapter of America's most notorious crime spree — believed themselves, for the moment, invisible.
They were not.
What followed when federal agents descended upon the Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters in the early hours of that April night has been debated, dramatized, and immortalized ever since. The raid was botched. Dillinger escaped. Innocent men were shot in the confusion. Baby Face Nelson killed a federal agent in the darkness of the surrounding woods. By dawn, the Northwoods were forever changed — and Little Bohemia Lodge had earned its permanent place in American criminal legend. The bullet holes, we are told, remain in the walls to this day.
It is from this singular, electric moment in Wisconsin history that 4-22-1934 takes its name, its character, and its considerable nerve.
The fragrance is an homage to the legendary Baccarat Rouge 540 — one of the most celebrated and audacious perfume compositions of the modern era. It is a scent that does not apologize for itself, which seems entirely appropriate. Burnt saffron and caramelized sugar open with an almost shocking warmth — opulent, slightly dangerous, and impossible to ignore. Jasmine and cedarwood thread through the heart with quiet authority, while ambergris and musk settle the composition into a finish of extraordinary depth and lingering presence. It smells, in short, like the kind of evening that begins with a whisper and ends in legend — much like that fateful spring night in Manitowish Waters, when the silence of the Northwoods shattered, and history was made whether anyone was ready for it or not.
Brewed with a Wisconsin craft microbrew from Minocqua — the nearest outpost of civilized refreshment to the Northwoods scene of the crime — because regional authenticity, in this workshop, is not merely an aesthetic choice. It is a standard.
And why beer in a bar of soap? The question is fair, and the answer is rather satisfying. Beer's natural sugars produce an exceptionally rich, creamy lather that plain water simply cannot replicate. Its B vitamins and antioxidants lend a subtle nourishing quality to the skin, while the yeast contributes to a smoother, more conditioning wash experience. The result is a bar that performs as distinctively as it smells — which, in the tradition of Wisconsin Waterfalls Soap & Etc., is the only acceptable outcome.
